Foreign nationals or permanent residents maybe detained by the (CBSA) Canada Border Services Agency for immigration reasons. They will have to appear before the Immigration Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada for detention reviews. They may detain (hold) a foreign national or permanent resident, if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person:
* is a danger to the public
* is inadmissible - that is, not allowed to enter or remain in Canada - for
security reasons, or for violating human or international rights
* has not established his or her identity to their satisfaction (this only
applies to foreign nationals)
